Local Partnerships
Pi Beta Phi is committed to ensuring our philanthropic donations make an impact in our local community.
AL Beta is a proud partner of Tuscaloosa Education Foundation. More specifically, we support Neighborhood Bridges and Reading Allies.

Our members provided over $2,500 worth of donations to local city and county schools in 2023. Our members served 600 hours of tutoring through the Reading Allies program in 2023!
Through our organization's advocacy for the importance and value of literacy, we are keenly aware that the best way to ensure children are set up to unlock their potential and be most productive during the school day is if they are safe and well taken care of. We believe in inspiring readers, sparking imaginations and igniting the desire to learn.

Local Philanthropy and Service

Through the FDS500 program, Pi Phi awards grants to First Book® recipient groups nominated by chapters and alumnae clubs each year. The grants can be used to purchase up to 500 new books from First Book which are then distributed to children in need. This year, the Alabama Beta chapter nominated New Heights Community Resource Center for Pi Beta Phi's FDS500 grant. New Heights Community Resource Center will receive a $2,000 credit for the First Book® Marketplace, which can be used to purchase books and literacy-related school supplies, thanks to the support and endorsement by our chapter.
First Book is a nonprofit organization providing new books, learning materials and other educational essentials to children in need. Together, Pi Beta Phi and First Book have donated more than 3.5 million books to children and communities in need across the United States and Canada through innovative programs and impactful events.
Our chapter was honored to participate in New Heights Community Resource Center's inaugural “Back To School Bash” in August. The chapter provided over $2,000 worth of brand new clothing items for students. Members also volunteered at the event, spending time face painting with the students.
