Dear Potential New Member,
Just 3 years ago, I was in your exact position. Excited beyond words to begin my new journey at the University of Alabama, but uncertain of how the next 4 years were going to go: But I knew that moving 2,300 miles from home wasn’t going to be easy. I knew that I wanted to join a sorority but had no idea what recruitment would entail or where I would end up. I was looking for a sisterhood that would encourage and push me to become the best version of myself in every aspect of life, and I can confidently say that I found that in Pi Phi.
It’s easy for me to look back on the time I’ve spent here so far and talk all about how much it’s changed my life, but the aspect of Pi Phi that has stood out to me the most by far are the friendships that feel like family. I remember hearing girls talk about how much they loved their friends during recruitment but I still didn’t know how I was going to choose the sisterhood that I was meant to belong to. That decision was made simple for me when I reflected not only on the content of the conversations I had, but thinking about how they made me feel- when talking to Pi Phis, I felt like I was talking to girls that just wanted to get to know me for who I am authentically, and showed me that they meant what they were saying through their empathy and kindness.
If I can give any advice to you as you come through recruitment, it’s to block out all the noise and listen to your heart. Look for girls that’ll not only celebrate you on your best days, but will stick by your side through the worst as well. Only you know what’s best for you and where you feel the most at home. On behalf of the AL Beta chapter of Pi Beta Phi, we cannot wait to welcome you to 845 Magnolia Drive and show you firsthand just how much this sisterhood means to us. Come put on the Pi Phi arrow, and you’ll know you’ve chosen right!
